چکیده

Current HMD applications are hampered by the limitations of head-tracking technologies now in use. Commercially available magnetic, optical, acoustic, and mechanical head-trackers suffer from various problems such as vulnerability to interference, line-of-sight restrictions, jitter, latency, small range, and high cost. This paper presents inertial-sensor-based hybrid tracking technology that was developed to combat all these problems. Two commercially available products, the IS-300 and the IS600, are described, both based on the same miniature triaxial inertial sensor device. The IS-300 is a sourceless 3-DOF orientation tracker, using gravimetric tilt-sensing to prevent any gyroscopic drift in pitch and roll, and optional geo-magnetic compassing to prevent any gyroscopic drift in yaw. The IS-600 is a hybrid acousto-inertial 6-DOF position and orientation tracking system. It tracks changes in orientation and position by integrating the outputs of its gyros and accelerometers, and corrects drift using a room-referenced ultrasonic time-of-flight range measuring system. This paper overviews the theory of operation of both systems, and reports bench-testing results designed to evaluate the resolution, accuracy, and latency of each system.

A Real-time Motion Tracking Wireless System for Upper Limb Exosuit Based on Inertial Measurement Units and Flex Sensors (TECHNICAL NOTE)

This paper puts forward a real-time angular tracking (motion capture) system for a low cost upper limb exosuit based on sensor fusion; which is integrated by an elastic sleeve-mitten, two inertial measurement units (IMU), two flex sensors and a wireless communication system. The device can accurately detect the angular position of the shoulder (flexion-extension, abduction-adduction and interna...

An Inertial and Optical Sensor Fusion Approach for Six Degree-of-Freedom Pose Estimation

Optical tracking provides relatively high accuracy over a large workspace but requires line-of-sight between the camera and the markers, which may be difficult to maintain in actual applications. In contrast, inertial sensing does not require line-of-sight but is subject to drift, which may cause large cumulative errors, especially during the measurement of position. To handle cases where some ...

A Low-Cost, Wearable Opto-Inertial 6-DOF Hand Pose Tracking System for VR

In this paper, a low cost, wearable six Degree of Freedom (6-DOF) hand pose tracking system is proposed for Virtual Reality applications. It is designed for use with an integrated hand exoskeleton system for kinesthetic haptic feedback. The tracking system consists of an Infrared (IR) based optical tracker with low cost mono-camera and inertial and magnetic measurement unit. Image processing is...

Real-Time Motion Tracking for Mobile Augmented/Virtual Reality Using Adaptive Visual-Inertial Fusion

In mobile augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR), real-time 6-Degree of Freedom (DoF) motion tracking is essential for the registration between virtual scenes and the real world. However, due to the limited computational capacity of mobile terminals today, the latency between consecutive arriving poses would damage the user experience in mobile AR/VR. Thus, a visual-inertial based real-time motion t...

An Adaptive-Robust Control Approach for Trajectory Tracking of two 5 DOF Cooperating Robot Manipulators Moving a Rigid Payload

In this paper, a dual system consisting of two 5 DOF (RRRRR) robot manipulators is considered as a cooperative robotic system used to manipulate a rigid payload on a desired trajectory between two desired initial and end positions/orientations. The forward and inverse kinematic problems are first solved for the dual arm system. Then, dynamics of the system and the relations between forces/momen...
